Situated to the west of Abbeyleix Main Street, Fr. Breen Park is a unique example of a multi-use/co-located facility located close to the centre of the town. The park incorporates a full-size GAA pitch, soccer pitch, all weather pitches & ball wall, all weather tennis courts, walkway and a shared clubhouse. The shared clubhouse includes dressing rooms for the various sporting disciplines and a youth centre club/ multi use meeting area - business space.

This development plan provides a framework for development projects consistent with short, intermediate, and long-range objectives for the sustainable development of the park and determines future financial requirements for same.

We are thrilled to announce that Fr. Breen Park, located in the heart of Abbeyleix, has been awarded its first-ever Green Flag Award (November 2024). This prestigious international accreditation recognizes the park's exceptional management, environmental care, and the tireless efforts of the community to preserve our natural spaces.

This year, 120 Irish parks, gardens, greenways, and wildlife sanctuaries have earned Green Flag recognition. The program, delivered in Ireland by An Taisce – The National Trust for Ireland since 2016, highlights the dedication of local communities and authorities in creating sustainable, welcoming green spaces for everyone.

The Green Flag Community Award, presented to Fr. Breen Park, celebrates the work of community groups in projects like Tidy Towns, community gardens, and parks. Supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development, this award empowers local groups to make a meaningful impact on their environment.

Fr. Breen Park's nomination was led by Laois County Council, with key facilitation from Ann Marie Maher, Laois County Council's Sports & Leisure Officer. Their collaboration underscores how community spirit and teamwork can create spaces that are both beautiful and beneficial for the planet.

This is a copy of our first Green Flag report which reviews progress to date and also identifies potential future developments. 

We were delighted to be supported by Laois County Council through the Community Action Fund Earlier this year. In total we were approved a total of  €49,000€ to: install a solar PV and battery installation, install smart controls on our heating system, install bike stands and purchase segregated bins. We were also supported to purchase innovative monitoring sensors.
