Rotary Awareness Day

To celebrate Rotary Awareness day Abbeyleix Tidy Towns with the assistance of our C.E scheme and the children from 5th and 6th class from Schoil Mhuire and Abbeyleix South National school planted 2,500 crocus bulbs in Abbeyleix.

The purple crocus bulb planted symbolises the purple dye painted on the little fingers of the children when they have been vaccinated.

The bulbs flower each February when Rotary celebrates it birthday. because of the severe weather conditions last year the bulbs were only planted on February 23rd 2011. The children were delighted that the crocus appeared two weeks later
