Abbeyleix Tidy Towns are appealing for more Volunteers for "The weekly Clean Up. The recently commissioned report by Laois County Council with reference to Community Substainability highlighted the importance of community involvement for a town to develope and flourish.

The study is a Pilot scheme which was funded by the Department of The Environment and can be used by other towns as a template for Substaining Communities

The report was carried out by Loci the workshops that were held during the consultation process were very well attented and their was a great energy & a wealth of knowledge on how we as a community need to plan for the future.

The poor attendance at the weekly clean up does not reflect great community spirit. Laois County Council has put Abbeyleix forward as an Entrant in this years Co-operation North Pride Of Place Competition. We entered the competion 5 years ago . The judges comment was "A town with great potential but lacking community involvement"

We as a community must rise to the challenge on this occassion not to impress the Judges but to show Civic Pride.

Tidy Town applaude individuals who have shown great initative in maintaining large open space .The Carlow Rd is a site to behold . The daily litter picks carried out by Joe .Many of The Residence Associations maintain their estates to a very high standard we would appeal to them to cast an eye for weeds of the approach rd into their estates.

This Is the year of the volunteer Tidy Towns would appreciate you offering a little of your time or skills just for an hour or two once a week. If you can paint or have carpentry or building skills we would appreciate you support. Tidy Towns work is a great way to burn up the Calories

We are a voluntary group who strive to proctect and preserve the gem that is our beautiful town
