posted 4 Jul 2011, 04:13 by Mark
Abbeyleix was given an opportunity on Thursday last, June 30th, to showcase the Pride of Place we all have in our  beautiful town
Fr Breen Park was thronged to host the Judges from the Co-Operation North Pride Of Place Competition.  All the Sports clubs, Residences Association, and Community groups put on magnificant displays of photographs and trophys of their success to date they were so proud to be involved and to show we are not just a pretty town, we have a community spirit and a passion that is hard to match .
All the hard work from our C.E. scheme and our Park Ranger really shone through

The town really rose to the challenge it. Great credit to all business and individuals who made such an effort to showcase our town.

The orgaisining committee acknowledge that a huge amount of time and effort was required by all clubs and individuals and are deeply appreciative of your support to make the day such a success.

Our town has a charm and magic that is hard to match and it was never more evident than on June 30th . The general opinion from all involved was that we should replicate a similiar day in the near future.

Music was supplied by Spink Comhaltas, Dancing by All Ireland Champions The Ballyroan Half Set & Shona Tierney who was crowned  recently as an all Ireland Irish Dancing champion.  Abbeyleix ICA gave a brilliant display of Line dancing, Abbeyleix Parish Choir gave a recital in the Parish Hall which went down a treat.  The judges were  given a guided tour of Dove House and were very impressed

Abbeyleix Vintage Club provided transport for the judges to Abbeyleix Bog and to the town centre.
The Judges were overwhelemed with the amount of enthusiasm of the people, the loveileness of the town and the friendliness of the business people they met on their walking tour of the town.
